Let’s face it—Competitive Intelligence professionals work hard to deliver the unique insights and perspectives that keep businesses ahead of the game. But even the sharpest folks need a breather now and then as the relentless pace under which we operate can take a toll.

The holiday season offers a unique opportunity to hit the reset button. At Proactive Worldwide, we recognize the importance of giving our team the chance to rest, refresh, recharge, and reconnect with what matters most. That’s why one of the key benefits we proudly provide is full paid time off from December 20 through January 3, which is in addition to other vacation time and PTO days. This isn’t just about a holiday shutdown—it’s a purpose-driven investment. It’s about ensuring our team members have the mental and physical space to decompress, reflect, spend time with loved ones, and come back rejuvenated for the year ahead.

Why is this so critical? Studies show that stepping away from work boosts creativity, enhances decision-making, and improves overall well-being. As CI professionals, our greatest asset is a sharp mind. To keep it alert, we must be intentional about giving it the breaks it deserves.

Here’s a challenge for you: this holiday season, truly “check out”. Shut the laptop, silence the notifications, and let yourself be present with friends and family—or simply with your own thoughts. The rigor of CI will still be there when you return, but you’ll approach it with fresh energy and perspective.

For me, some of the best insights and ideas often bubble up after I’ve stepped away from the daily pressures. A rested mind sees connections and possibilities that a fatigued one can’t.

So, whether you’re catching up on sleep, binge-watching your favorite shows, or playing board games with your kids, know that you’re doing something profoundly valuable—not just for yourself, but for the work you’ll tackle in the new year.

This season, let’s give ourselves permission to rest harder than ever before. If your organization doesn’t offer a similar policy, I encourage you to advocate for meaningful breaks. I find that investing in yourself and your team’s well-being can lead to the ultimate competitive advantage.

Here’s to a happy and restful holiday season. Unplug, unwind, and re-energize for 2025. You’ve earned it!!
