Gary Maag, co-founder, has over 30 years of experience in competitive intelligence, research and consulting. He directs all of Proactive Worldwide’s global business development, sales and marketing activities. As a passionate industry educator, the most popular topics in his workshops include demonstrating return on investment and the importance of evidence-based intelligence for decisions concerning business development in emerging markets. Gary has received the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals’ (SCIP) Catalyst Award as well as Northern Illinois University’s Distinguished Marketing Alumnus Award.
David Kalinowski, co-founder, oversees all of Proactive Worldwide’s business operations and administration. With over 30 years of experience in competitive intelligence, research and consulting, he has led successful client engagements for hundreds of domestic and international companies. He assists executive boards as a trusted advisor for counter-intelligence matters and regularly facilitates war gaming events with strategic leadership teams. A dynamic facilitator, he frequently presents at industry events and has been honored with SCIP’s Catalyst Award.
Vice Presidents & Directors
Paul is responsible for client and research management across a variety of Healthcare, Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical engagements. Paul’s portfolio focus includes rare disease, bioprocessing, neuroscience, vaccines, cell & gene therapy. Paul was the subject matter expert in Technical Evaluation of Scientific programs at DARPA, including full program lifecycle development, and clinical policy to the Assistant Secretary to the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, with oversight of the Army Surgeon General’s office. Paul’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University with Post-Doctoral experience in Immunology research.
Ms. Zeman brings strong leadership experience to Proactive, where she has conducted and managed numerous competitive assessments, win/loss studies, new market entry studies, benchmarking studies and deep-dive assessments in consumer and industrial goods and manufacturing markets. Ms. Zeman draws on her extensive background in marketing and research in the building industry, where prior to joining Proactive, she held positions as a market research manager and associate director of strategic marketing. In addition, Ms. Zeman has experience conducting market research and competitive intelligence in other industries including credit cards, news media, and automotive aftermarket. Ms. Zeman received a BA in international relations (magna cum laude) from DePaul University. She is certified as a Bankcard Management Professional by the National Bankers Association and the University of Delaware.
An accomplished and versatile operations executive, Karen oversees engagements with technology and financial services clients. She possesses a wealth of expertise in business strategy and program and project management within challenging, fast-paced customer-centric environments. Karen’s passion is identifying and mitigating compliance/regulatory and reputational risk. Prior to joining Proactive, she managed underwriting teams at AIG. Additionally, she worked with The Hartford, CNA, and AON. Karen received her B.S. in Business Administration from Alcorn State University. She is a member of Risk Management Society Group and has studied leadership, negotiating, ethics and diversity, and time management.
Kelley Loiacono, PWW’s Vice President of Administration, is an award-winning professional who has been integral to the firm’s success since 2005. Loiacono manages the four essential administrative pillars that help hold up PWW behind the scenes—human resources, legal, insurance, and banking.
Her encyclopedic knowledge of the business, practical experience, and unsurpassed work ethic help fuel Loiacono’s drive to achieve common goals while maintaining a productive, upbeat working environment.
